The immune system & how it works…
Understanding the immune system is key to understanding how our bodies have the ancient innate ability to fight a virus that we come into contact with. Dr Bruce Lipton received a B.A. in biology from C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in 1966 and a PhD in developmental biology from the University of Virginia in 1971. He changed the belief about biology by discovering that all cells begin as the same cell, but the environment changes the purpose and function of the cell.
Bruce Lipton is a world leader in Epigenetics; what is epigenetics, you may ask? Epigenetics is the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work. Therefore your genes don’t control your cells, your environment, perception, and behavior do. He states, “If you change your perception, you change the reading of your genes”.
Dr. Bruce Lipton in the above YouTube video explains how our bodies work to fight viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens with our body’s impressive immune system and protective barriers. He describes how Covid affects the lungs which is really interesting, as Covid thrives in a cooler environment, the lungs are cooler as we breath in cold air. This is why the lung are being effected by Covid as it is the perfect thriving and entre point for the virus.
Boosting your immune system is the key to fighting the virus. Lipton explains four fundamental ways to boost immunity.
- Through nutrients, whole natural organic food such as fruit and vegetables.
- Supplementation of crucial nutrients; in New Zealand we lack some key nutrients in the soil. These are magnesium, essential in healing the body as it relaxes muscles and the nervous system. A stressed body is dramatically compromised to fight off viruses and heal.
Zinc, required to heal tissue which is essential for the repair of the lungs. Zinc is a superpower anti-oxidant that inhibits oxidation which damages cells.
Selenium is an anti-oxidant also and protects the body from infection, so excellent in immunity. In addition, selenium is an essential mineral for mental health, lacking in selenium can lead to low mood.
In studies, Vitamin D has been an influential component in seeing Covid rates decrease in the summer months. Covid is higher in the African population in Scandinavia due to low sunlight and darker skin preventing the absorption of sunlight which is the ingredient to create vitamin D for the body.

In the USA, vitamins C and D are low in the population, states Bruce Lipton.
- Exercise, boosts the immune system through the increasing flow of nutrients and detoxification. Movement increases cardiovascular output and input, pumping nutrients, cells, toxins around like a fully functioning factory. If the body doesn’t exercise, it’s like the factory is not working at total capacity and can become sluggish and inefficient.
- Reducing stress is vital, because stress hormones are released when the body is under stress causing the immune system to shut down. The body doesn’t need the immune system if we are running from the lion, it needs all the energy for the muscles to run and protect the body from harm. So staying relaxed and de-stressed is vital.

Bruce Lipton goes onto explain that the Covid mortality rate is the reflection of the poor health of the population and their low immunity due to lack of nutrients, exercise and high stress. Rather than the virus itself. So why are countries not addressing the health of the nation through education on healthy living and making healthy wholefood cheaper and processed foods more expensive?
